FAN PROFILE

NAME- James Dixon aka Deaf Dicko

FIRST HOME GAME EVER SEEN- Port vs Tranmere Rovers in the Liverpool Senior Cup Final in 1996  I was the mascot for this game and was led out by Leroy Dove.

FIRST AWAY GAME EVER SEEN- Barrow vs Port in FA Trophy Round 2 on Sat 27th November 1999. Port won  3 –2 v Barrow. Lee Furlong, Mark Stuart and Ian Arnold scored for Port. Lee Trundle missed from 2 yards out having run rings around the whole of the Barrow defence.

BEST GAME EVER SEEN- Port vs Notts County in FA Cup 1st Round on Sat 16th November 2002, Port were featured on Match of the Day as Giant-Killers  it was also  my birthday and was the best weekend of my life!

WORST GAME EVER SEEN- Port vs Glouster City, Saturday 22nd and Tuesday 25th February 2003 for FA Trophy 5th round.  The Port team were awful totally lacking commitment and passion and completely undeserving of the tremendous support which followed them to Gloucester.

BEST OCCASION (S)- Altricham vs Port on Tues 18th Januray 2000 . Robert Pell  scored a last-minute goal to  level at 1-1. I ran towards the Alty fans cheering when we scored only to be chased back when they took issue with my “ sign language “  The Port  won the resultant penalty shootout.  Also Weymouth vs Port on Saturday 24th February because Dicko’s saves were awesome and kept us in the game which the Port eventually  won 2-1.

WORST OCCASION(S)- Being relegated at end of last season and “cheated” out of FA Trophy Quarter-Final on Sat 10th March at Chester City by an awful Referee.

FAVOURITE EVER PLAYER- Shaun Teale because he is a local lad. He played with my Dad “Sumo” at Southport Trinity and Sandgrounders and played Premiership Football for Aston Villa. He always gave 100% and was a real stalwart at Haig Ave.

FUNNIEST MOMENT WATCHING SFC- Leek Town vs Port in FA Trophy 3rd round on Tues 14th January 2003. Ex-Port player, Phil Morgan  dived over the ball from Steve Whitehall’s shot which was nothing more dangerous than a back pass  and in the same game when Steve Pickford ran at the goal in the last 2 minutes and fell over with only the goalkeeper to beat.

BEST GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER-(Cup) Thommo vs Dagenham and Redbrigde in the FA Trophy 4th round replay last season. Thommo’s goal was awesome and Ian Arnold’s goal  v Hednesford Utd on Saturday 22nd January 2000, “Arnie”volleyed from outside of the box and beat Ex-Port goalkeeper Billy Stewart . Ian’s goal was brilliant!

BEST GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC-(Cup) Rochdale FC. Port played at Rochdale in The LDV Trophy 1st round on Tues 16th October 2001 but sadly Rochdale won 2-0. Telford Utd’s New Bucks Head or Halifax Town’s the Shay  are also among my favourites..

ANY ANECDOTES- I would like to thank Peter Dixon (Sumo), John Hampson (Hotspurshaig), Steve Montgomery and Andy Davis (RedstarAndrew) for taking me to watch Port in away games!

Thanks to James for this, the last Fan Profile for this season
