JANUARY 2010 ARCHIVE 31 Jan Trust In Yellow are only a couple of people short of being able to run a coach to Hinckley on Monday 8th Feb. If you want to go on the coach please contact Alan Scarisbrick without delay so we can confirm it is running. It will depart from Haig Ave at 3.30pm. 30 Jan Away Stafford Rangers. STAFFORD 1 SOUTHPORT 2. Two Steve Daly goals the first a pen and the second coming 3 mins 30 seconds into 3 minutes of added time. Even then the ref played another minute and 20 seconds. Not the best of games but the late goal made it all worthwhile. The Stafford fans seem to be complaining about the amount of added time? There was easily 3 minutes and then within those 3 minutes there was time to be added for the recovery of the ball from the stands. The extra bit after we scored would have been to allow for the amount of time we spent celebrating the goal! Workington sensationally win at AFC Wimbledon in the Trophy which means our game scheduled for 20 Feb will be off. 28 Jan Res H V Bamber Bridge 26 Jan Home v Barrow LJC QF SOUTHPORT 4 BARROW 2 After Extra Time. Scorers Simm, own goal, Marsh-Evans and Kilheeney. Highly entertaining game, end to end, some very good displays and a couple of cracking goals. We go on to play at the footballing Mecca of Leyland against Lancaster City who are flying in Unibond 1 under the managership of Tony Hesketh. Mark Boyd and Phil Bolland both played for Barrow. The Club are crediting the second goal to Steve Daly but it was an absolute cert og as it wasn't going anywhere near the goal. At least the one on Saturday was just about on target. 24 Jan I haven't seen the DVD yet but our cameraman has and says it was a definite og but the official version is a goal to Matty. 23 Jan Home v AFC Telford United. SOUTHPORT 3 AFC TELFORD 0. After a lacklustre performance in the first half we came to life in the second period and ended up with a comfortable win. Tony McMillan's first half penalty save was excellent. There is some doubt about our first goal with the dubious goals panel being called into action again. I am waiting on seeing the DVD before making a final decision. It looked at first like an own goal but it has been credited to Matty. Matty also got goal number two in a solid MOTM performance. The new strike partnership of Rob Marsh-Evans and Chris Simm combined well to get the late third goal! Thankfully the fog stayed away and we got 90 minutes of football. Fleetwood win again to stay top. Stalybridge and Hinckley draw 0-0. It is looking increasingly like a two horse race but Stalybridge, Hinckley, Eastwood and Droylsden are all still in the mix and we still have them all to play away from home. Fleetwood also have to visit Eastwood, Stalybridge and Hinckley. Looks like being an exciting end to the season. If anyone is after a copy of the away programme at Fleetwood I have two for sale at the face value price of £2 plus £1 P&P if needed. Let me know by e-mail. I also have one spare from Stalybridge.. Weather looks ok (9.30am) I was a bit bothered about last night's fog but it looks to be lifting so at long last we should have a full game of football to watch. 21 Jan Reserves at AFC Fylde lose 3-1 19 Jan Gloucester game arranged for 23rd March. Tonight's win for Fleetwood sees them go top by three points but we do of course have two games in hand. The gate of just 611 is a season low. Hinckley who were third surprisingly lose at Harrogate. In the Trophy, Workington beat Rushden & Diamonds. If they win their next round game our match on the 23rd Feb will be off. Of the six games played five result in the lowest gate of the season including what could well be an all time Conf North low of 142 at Harrogate v Hinckley. The exception was Stafford Rangers who have their best (670) against Telford. Another change at the top of the Prediction League. 18 Jan Let's hope we get a game on Saturday, this inactivity is driving me mad. There is heavy rain forecast for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday so far according to the Met Office. Just been reading about the shenanigans at Chester City. What a mess that club is. So many clubs are getting themselves in a state these days it must only be a matter of time before someone calls a halt to all the debts that are in football at present. My boys at HMRC (not that I would know the first thing about tax!) are often seen as the bad guys in all these cases but maybe if they are finally getting tough on clubs it will signal an end to the continuous stream of winding ups and administration cases. I'll have to get them to take a close look at Fleetwood!
16 Jan Away at
Gloucester City-remember Gloucester play in Cirencester. MATCH OFF Fleetwood win 1-0 to go level on points with us but we stay top on goal difference by 1 goal. Eastwood lose at Northwich. Phil Carder retakes the lead in the PREDICTION COMPETITION 14 Jan TIY Meeting 7.30pm in The Grandstand Club. 13 Jan It now looks like waterlogging will be the potential problem for Saturday. A lot of snow fell in the area last night which resulted in the school next door to the ground being closed today as the buses couldn't get access to it. The ground is situated on the east side of the town on slightly higher ground and out in the country and was snowed in today. It is handy having a source in the area keeping me updated. Fleetwood will be playing Ilkeston Town at home on Saturday rather than at Ilkeston and they have rearranged their game at home to Farsley for the 19th January. Our LJC game against Barrow has been arranged for the 26th, all being well. 11 Jan Match v Alfreton is rearranged for Tuesday March 2nd. Forecast says 5 degrees for Friday in Cirencester, maybe? Barrow's match at Maidenhead is off tomorrow so our LJ Cup game on the 19th will have to be rearranged again. 10 Jan I have updated the PHOTO GALLERY with some of the best photos from 2008/09 and 2009/10. The only good thing about not having any football is the website is getting a few updates done to it. Alex Parker passed away on Thursday of last week. Alex is pictured below standing second from left.
You can make your mind up about whether the game at Cirencester is likely to go ahead looking at the five day forecast. We can only hope there is a change.
9 Jan Home v Alfreton. Pitch Inspection 3pm Friday. MATCH OFF 7 Jan Maidenhead v Barrow is already off so our Lancs Cup game next Tuesday bites the dust. Attached is a list of programmes for sale sent to me by an SFCSTATS reader. If anyone needs any, let me know and I will put you in touch with the seller. 6 Jan Not looking good for Saturday. Three inches of snow on the pitch and rock solid underneath. Snow clearing efforts would be of no use this time because of the solid surface. Temperatures don't look like rising much between now and Saturday so it looks like it could well be a blank Saturday. Fleetwood play Dover, 660 miles and Barrow against Maidenhead is 550 miles. Fleetwood have the covers but if it goes to a replay that would be some midweek trip. 5 Jan Home v Barrow Lancs Cup Quarter Final. INSPECTION EARLY MORNING. MATCH OFF 4 Jan Definite confirmation on 9th March for Stalybridge replay. 2 Jan After a long time at the top of the PREDICTION LEAGUE Phil Carder's lead has finally been taken over! 1 January 2010 Away at Fleetwood. Fleetwood have spent £15,000 on frost covers so hopefully his game should be ok unless of course it rains a lot! Happy New Year to all SFCSTATS readers. Heavy overnight frost so it is hoped the covers have worked and of course it doesn't freeze too much when they take them off or as it goes dark! Contacted Fleetwood at 11.30 and game is definitely on. Pitch in excellent condition FLEETWOOD 4 SOUTHPORT 0. Very disappointing and ill disciplined performance. If we were up for it on Boxing Day and Fleetwood weren't it was roles reversed today. Fantastic gate of 2541. It was the 93rd gate over 2000 for us in NL Football. It's a blip and I am sure we will bounce back. Ashley Winn and Matty McGinn pick up their 5th bookings and with Moog's red card we could be down to the bare bones (not sure when the 7 bookings rule kicks in). It was the first league game we have failed to score in this season we therefore end up 3 short of the 27 match record for consecutive scoring games. Nice to hear a very honest assessment of the game and overall situation from Liam in the podcast. Worst defeat since 5-1 at Farsley (but that doesn't count!) or 4-0 at Grays in 06/07. Outside of Conference National matches our last 4 goal away defeat (apart from Farsley) was in the 1991/92 season at Fleetwood when we went down 5-1 in front of just 179 fans. |
