30 Mar Interesting debate going on the Conf North forum between Burscough fans and some Southport fans surrounding gates. Just throw something into the pot here. Burscough's average gate last season was 339, boosted considerably at the end of season, this year it is 440, if you take out the Southport gate that average drops to 380. You then look at some other gates they have had and every one above that average figure was boosted by a decent away following or played on a day when Southport weren't playing. I would be hard pressed to say as is claimed by Burscoughnian on Conf North Forum that they have a growing fan base? If I was a Burscough supporter I would actually be a bit disappointed in their gates this year. A low of 289 for a Local Derby on a night when a significant number of Southport fans attended is not what such a "go ahead, vibrant club" would want. Is it? Our gates have been disappointing this season but we are averaging more than when we won the league. Even if you take out the Burscough gate which was boosted by such a huge number of the "Green Army" the average is only just below the 1000 mark which considering we have just suffered relegation and have a good number of disaffected fans is not that bad. The away followings to Haig Ave have also been poor this season with only Telford and Stalybridge bringing anything like a decent number of supporters.

29 Mar Home Boston United 3pm-An update on the Trust In Yellow pledges will appear in today's match day programme. It is possible that Kettering could actually win the title today if all the results go their way.

SOUTHPORT 2 BOSTON UNITED 2-Tony Gray equals the club record of 7 successive scoring league games. A game that we had won at half time I never thought we would let Boston back in to it but after 60 minutes it was inevitable and by the 91st minute it was certain and you actually felt we could well end up losing it by the end of the 95th minute! Why is Tony Gray put out wide right, that has to be stopped immediately, I can understand the desire to get Rodney Jack in the action, I think, but not at the expense of a player who has scored 13 goals in 8 games, he has to be played centrally. What can you say, we threw another 2 points away at home and the play offs are looking to be on a knife edge now. Thankfully Nuneaton only drew but Barrow are coming up on the rails and could still have a shout in there.

Just watched the DVD of the game (available for £8 from The Club Shop to order!) It was a blatant handball for Boston's first goal just before the cross came in but it was blindside of the ref. How the near side liner didn't see it though I don't know. The equalising goal saw Terry Smith impeded at the corner but the ball should have been hoofed clear by Kevin Lee rather than mis-kicked for the corner. Having watched it again I have changed my MOTM from Tony Gray to Chris Holland. You don't always realise just how much work Chris gets through and how many times he sets up play. No complaints overall, a draw was the right result over the 90 minutes.

If this still does not produce 4 eligible teams then the highest placed team(s) will receive a bye(s)

24 Mar-Home Workington 3pm.

SOUTHPORT 1 WORKINGTON 1-It was definitely a case of after The Lord Mayor's Show. Workington were fully deserving of their point in a game in which we simply never got going. Tony Gray's 12th goal in 7 games salvaged a point. Tony has now scored in 7 successive games, 6 in league matches. A dreadful game in all honesty. Nuneaton beat Telford but Stalybridge lose at Tamworth. Harrogate win at Vauxhall and an impressive 665 Kettering fans make the journey to Boston to see them win 1-0. Our visitors on Saturday have now lost 4 on the spin. Hopefully Mark Duffy will be fully fit for Saturday, we do miss him in home matches when teams need breaking down.
