STANDING ORDER FOR GOALDEN LOTTERY

FAN ZONE

This weeks Fan Zone is a bit different. I asked on Port Chat if any of our fans would be interested in doing a Fan Profile to be included in the programme and had one or two responses so to start off I thought I would look at one of our younger fans.

NAME-Phil Lavery aka Amnesiac

FIRST HOME GAME EVER SEEN- 3 January 1994 at home to Northwich Victoria, quite how I got hooked following a 0-0 bore draw I’ll never know!

FIRST AWAY GAME EVER SEEN-I’m not quite sure, my memory is very poor( which partly explains my “Amnesiac” alias on Port Chat) it was probably around 1997

BEST GAME EVER SEEN- Without a shadow of a doubt it was against Mansfield in the 2nd round of the FA Cup in 1997/98 season. The atmosphere created by the travelling Sandgrounders on a freezing December afternoon was incredible and to see us play high-flying Mansfield off the park on their own patch is a memory I will never forget.

WORST GAME EVER SEEN-It would have to be the 4-0 drubbing dished out by Barrow at Haig Avenue, Boxing day 1999. Enough said!

BEST OCCASION(S)-Getting to Wembley and beating Mansfield and Notts County in the FA Cup are the obvious ones. Other occasions that stand out are Robert Pell’s injury time equaliser at Altrincham in the 3rd Round of the FA Trophy replay which led to us winning 4-3 on penalties: Mark Wrights first “official” game in charge at Morecambe, a 6 goal thriller was also a bit special!

WORST OCCASION(S)-The FA Trophy QF defeat at Chester during 2000-01 season was a bitter pill to swallow and of course that fateful day at Stevenage last season when we were relegated.

FAVOURITE EVER PLAYER-Brian Butler, I have never seen a more committed player in my life, seeing how upset he was as he walked up to collect his runners up medal at Wembley brought a lump to my throat!

FUNNIEST MOMENT WATCHING SFC-when Andy Gouck’s rip roaring strike at Morecambe quite literally tore the net apart at the away end, the game was delayed whilst two Morecambe officials stood on step ladders and attempted to fix it with a piece of string!!

BEST GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER-Tommo v Dagenham in the Trophy replay,  last minute wonder goal, or, Chris Lane v Notts County in FA Cup, good build up and sublime finish.

BEST GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC- Besides Wembley, it’s a toss up between Yeovil’s Huish Park and Rushden & Diamonds Nene Park.
