FAN PROFILE

 NAME-Steven Jackson

FIRST HOME GAME EVER SEEN-v Port Vale 23 April 1966, as a six year old so cannot recall much about it, other than a certain Jim Fryatt made a big impression! Southport won 2-1 and Fryatt scored!

FIRST AWAY GAME EVER SEEN - Blackburn v Southport 3 February 1974 and a 2-1 defeat. A bleak season as ‘Port were relegated back to Division 4, after just one season in Division 3.

BEST GAME EVER SEEN - For emotion the draw v Hartlepool in 1973 that saw Southport to the Division 4 Championship. For thrills and goals the 5-4 defeat at Horwich, New Years Day 1990. For simply taking the opposition apart the two wins v Chorley in 1992/93. 7-1 at home on 31 Aug and 6-1 away on 20 October.

WORST GAME EVER SEEN -Two together-both recent ones at that in January 2003. The 2-0 defeat at Accrington in the Lancs Trophy and, three days later the 1-0 reverse at Kettering. The performances were dreadful.

BEST OCCASION(S)- Wembley 1998, of course for the whole event and anticipation.

The day at Emley in April 1993 when we won 4-0 to win the NPL and the scenes afterwards were just fantastic.

The Premier Inter League Cup Final at Aylesbury in 1991 v Dover. Although Port lost 2-1, the friendship and good humour from the Dover and Port fans typified the true spirit of the non-league game.

Hammering Marine 4-0 at Goodison Park in the Liverpool Senior Cup Final 1991

And finally, Gary Cooper scoring a hat-trick at marine in the 4-1 win, November 1981.

WORST OCCASION(S)- Being at Spennymoor for the 4-1 defeat in the FA Cup 1st round 1975/76.

The 2-1 win at Blyth Spartans spoilt by the antics of so called Blyth fans who insulted and attacked Southport supporters.

FAVOURITE EVER PLAYER- Jim Fryatt, Eric Redrobe and latterly Steve Haw were favourites.

FUNNIEST MOMENT WATCHING SFC-Away at Mossley December 1982, everyone waiting for a ball to come back into the ground as all had been lost and couldn’t be found in the pitch black outside. We won 4-1 but driver Lionel Stanyon also contrived to get us lost and we finished up in Huddersfield!

BEST GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER- Greg Challender’s overhead kick at Stevenage, 4 Feb 1995. It finished off a lovely spell of possession. The 2-1 win saw us stay second in the Conference.

BEST GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC- Rushden & Diamonds Nene Park and Yeovil’s Huish Park.

Thanks Steven for that.
