FAN PROFILE NAME-Alan Taylor FIRST
HOME GAME EVER SEEN-Barrow,
November 1963. My Dad (Gordon) took me along for the first time. FIRST
AWAY GAME EVER SEEN-Leeds
United FA Cup Januray 1965. Taken by my Uncle Danny on supporters coach. BEST
GAME EVER SEEN-For drama and
sheer entertainment value with a crowd of over 10,000 who created a great
atmosphere, Hereford United away on Boxing Day 1972. A 2-2 draw. This game had
everything. WORST
GAME EVER SEEN-0-5 Farnborough
away in the FA Trophy. One of their older supporters told me you’ve come
a long way for nothing. BEST
OCCASION(S)-Wembley! The
emotions all came out as Paul Futcher led the team out. I put my arms around my
sons Dan and Ben and I will remember that moment for ever. Also at Crewe Alex,
April 73 clinching promotion. WORST
OCCASION(S)-Hearing on the
radio we had lost league status in 1978. Losing 0-1 at Runcorn in the FA Cup
November 1977. Laying in bed waiting for the score to come through from Reading
and a voice shouting upstairs “ they’ve lost 0-8! FAVOURITE
EVER PLAYER-Has to be Eric
Redrobe. For passion, commitment and goalscoring. He always gave everything,
even blood. I also have to mention Chris Dunleavy, Tony Field, Colin Alty and
Steve Haw. FUNNIEST
MOMENT WATCHING SFC- Neil
Graystons dance in front of the Scarisbrick end after scoring and his reaction
when I shouted to him at Barnet. BEST
GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER-Gary Cooper at home to Hull City(I told you in the last edition it was
good-ed) Scored from the left wing at the Blowick end. Also David Gamble, he
scored many great goals but the 35 yarder at Runcorn was a bit special. BEST
GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC-Manchester
City in the NPL Cup Final vs Buxton and Rushden & Diamonds. ANY
ANECDOTES-I’ve watched The
Port for 40 years, seen them play in four different divisions, seen all their
promotions and relegations, games at Hull City and home to Everton in the FA Cup
were also great occasions. Heres to another 40 and promotion soon! |
