APRIL NEWS ARCHIVE 29 Apr Res Home v Workington. Win and we win the league. Table top below is prior to kick off. This table is correct, the one on the Lancs League website is again wrong.
27 Apr If anyone has contacted me by e-mail in the last few days and not had a response, my apologies. The DVD and Celebration Brochure orders have been flooding in and they have taken up all my spare time. I will catch up in due course. 25 Apr The photos will be going on Photobucket later (there are a lot) If anyone would like a copy of them all on disc, it can be done for a £3 donation to Trust In Yellow. Contact me to order. Photos are now on Photobucket Link: EASTWOODCHAMPIONSHIPDAY The site will be fully updated with all the end of season stats over the next week. Busy with the brochure detailed above for a few days. It is already taking shape and promises to be a real collectors item and a great memento of the season. Orders are already flooding in, thank you. It will definitely be cut at 500 so don't delay. There will be contributions from Liam, Charlie, some players, supporters as well as some fantastic photos. 24 Apr Away Eastwood Town. EASTWOOD 0 SOUTHPORT 3 and the championship is ours. Goals from a Matty McGinn pen after 8 minutes (our fifth pen in consecutive games which must be a record?) Chris Simm after 50 and Chris Lever on 70 sealed a comfortable win. More to follow. 23 Apr FLEETWOOD LOSE APPEAL. It can now be decided on the pitch tomorrow with both teams knowing what has to be done. I don't need weeks like this one has been ever again. From 3.02pm last Saturday when we scored against Hyde, then heard Blyth were leading against Fleetwood it has been a roller coaster of feelings. By 4.50pm tomorrow I just hope the roller coaster is at its high point. It's now in our hands and we can't ask for anymore than that can we. 21 Apr Fleetwood Appeal Day. I understand it could be "late afternoon" before we hear anything. What a painful day. Still no news at 5pm! No decision today!!!! I took a day off work especially for this to stay concentrated and there is no way I can have Thursday or Friday off. The Fleetwood site is saying the FA are "hopeful of a decision by Friday" You can see us not knowing what is going on when we go to Eastwood at this rate. Quite a (over) reaction to last night. Fair to say we didn't play well but Alfreton were very good. We all should know what to expect from Liam's teams now, he isn't going to change a tried and trusted method two games away from a possible championship winning season. It's never pretty but it has served us well thus far. Subject to the appeal, we go into the last day with the title still in our hands. On the resource available, that isn't a bad achievement. Time to put things into perspective and get behind the manager and team on Saturday! Our average home league attendance for 2009/10 is 924, 25 up on last season. The game against Alfreton produced our first ever Conference North 2000+ home attendance. We have now had 94 plus 2000's in NL football, winning 15, drawing 27 and losing 52. 20 Apr Home v Alfreton Town. SOUTHPORT 1 ALFRETON 3. No arguments about the scoreline, the best team to visit Haig Ave this season won easily and it all goes down to the wire. A Matty McGinn penalty got us off to a good start but three excellent goals were well deserved by Alfreton. A superb gate of 2021. The curse of the big gate again? sfcvalfreton20april-PHOTOBUCKET PICTURES 19 Apr Workington win 2-0 at Hyde. This means that Workington go above Alfreton and they will play each other in the play off semi. The incentive to Alfreton is to finish above them so they get the home second leg in the play offs, maybe that could ease some of the Fleetwood conspiracy theorists. 18 Apr At the start of what is possibly one of the most tense week's in our history, I thought I'd try and work out the scenarios. It will be made a lot easier if we just go out and win the last two games. If you read all the various forums it looks like everyone in Fleetwood thinks their appeal will be successful whilst everywhere else in BSN thinks it stands no chance. They are not a well liked club anymore. Talking to people around the club yesterday, the general view is it doesn't stand a cat in hell's chance of being upheld. Fleetwood are however well within their rights to lodge the appeal and with Pilley's money behind them who knows what Wednesday will bring.

A nice and comfortable win which did the heart good ready for what will no doubt be a big seven days ahead. Goals from "Killer" Earl, Matty McGinn pen and Paul Barratt. We have been such a second half team this season it's nice to have gone in 3-0 up in the last three games. Photos are as usual now being stored on PHOTOBUCKET-thank you to everyone who has contacted me about this, I am glad you like them and yes, they will start going on in sequence next season. I will be sorting out the ones already there once the season ends and then we'll be putting them on regularly and in order. I am also going to put on a selection of photos from the last few seasons. Kep checking the PHOTO GALLERY INDEX for updates Photos from SOUTHPORT FC HELP FOR HEROES DAY are HERE SFC HFH DAY Match Photos SOUTHPORT v HYDE UNITED 16 Apr The DVD's from the game against Clitheroe are in the shop for those who pre-ordered. Having watched the game again, Ashley's goal is superb. The DVD is very well produced with interviews and pre match build up. It has been made in conjunction with Trust In Yellow. It was £8 for pre-orders and is now available for £10 made to order and can be posted out for an extra £1. There may be a couple of spares available in the shop tomorrow. The photos that Julia took at the Lancs Cup Final are now on photobucket LANCS CUPFINAL 15 Apr Res Away at Curzon Ashton. If we win and Woodley lose the title will be as good as ours as our goal difference is 21 better than Woodley's. LATEST HALF TIME A Conor Swale hat-trick in the first half gives us a 3-0 lead. FINAL SCORE 5-0 with Conor Swale adding his fourth and Connor Millington getting the fifth. We now have to beat Workington on the 29th to win the Lancashire League title as Woodley also won, 5-4 at Fylde. Woodley are away at bottom of the league Workington on the 22nd and we face Workington at home on the 29th.
14 Apr Lancs Cup Final v Clitheroe at Bolton Wanderers Reebok Stadium. SOUTHPORT 4 CLITHEROE 0 Very comfortable win. Goals from Ashley Winn, a live contender for goal of the season, Steve Daly and two from sponsors Man Of The Match Chris Simm. Impressive gate of 1207. 10 Apr Away Droylsden. DROYLSDEN 0 SOUTHPORT 3 Fantastic performance from 1-11. First half goals from Steve Daly, Matty McGinn(pen) and Ciaran Kilheeney and it was dreamland. Coasted through the second period. The gate of 584 was Droylsden's best "paying gate" of the season. They did have a 1296 when everyone was admitted free. Impossible to say how many visiting fans there were but I would suggest it was split 50/50, the whole ground was awash with Sandgrounders. Droylsden v Southport Match Photos on Photobucket c/o Julia Urwin Chris Simm's 26th birthday. I have moved all my Harrogate Champions Day, Presentation Evening and Open Top Bus Tour photos to Photobucket. The permanent link is in my Photo Gallery Index. Champions20042005Season Harrogate, Presentation Evening and Open Top Bus Parade There are a lot more photos here than were previously on the site, some previously unseen. 8 Apr Res Home v Curzon Ashton a win will put us back on top of the table. Win they did 3-0 with goals from Conor Swale, Danny Lloyd and Allan Smart. Play Off Final date has been confirmed as Sunday 9th May. 6 Apr Southport v Northwich Vics Photobucket Click the link to see a selection of photos from yesterday's match. Harrogate v Southport.photobucket Click the link to see a selection of photos from Saturday's match. Thanks to Sally Devine for the three pictures currently on the front page, I think I enjoyed the winning goal yesterday but I promise Matty and I are just good friends really! February and March News & Views moved to archives. Just checking out the refs for the forthcoming games. Our last day ref is Mr AN Smith. The last day ref at Fleetwood is none other than Bobby Pollock regularly seen running the line at Premiership games but more known to Southport fans for his performance in the FA Trophy Quarter Final at Chester....remember him..."he is an Evertonian" We have Mr Duval at Droylsden, Mr Copeland against Hyde and Mr Salisbury against Alfreton. 5 Apr Home v Northwich Victoria. SOUTHPORT 2 NORTHWICH VICS 1. Phew! It wasn't pretty but what a finale and with Fleetwood losing at Workington who cares how we did it! We are top and that's all that matters tonight. A Michael Powell goal on the stroke of half time, a goal that earns him a place in the 20 GOAL CLUB, and a Matty McGinn penalty after 89 minutes gives us the points. Steve Daly misses a pen and is then stupidly sent off. Woodley must have played an extra game somewhere as they are back top of the Reserve table but we still have the game in hand.
3 Apr Away Harrogate Town. HARROGATE TOWN 2 SOUTHPORT 3. On a shocker of a pitch, but still grateful the game was on, we came away with a hard fought 3-2 win. Goals from Steve Daly (his 17th in the league this season), Chris Lever, 42 seconds into the second half and Ciaran Kilheeney (his 15th of the season) with a superb finish on 85 minutes gave us the points. An uncomfortable last 5 minutes but well deserved win. Harrogate's best gate of the season, 458, included around 200 travelling fans. The lowest we can now finish is third so, even if we are in the play offs we will get our first try at a home tie in the second leg (2nd May) which will of course mean a midweek away trip on 28th April. Hopefully it won't be needed! 2 Apr I am planning on dropping the Photo Gallery from the website in the close season and moving all the photos over to Photobucket. I've tested it out and it looks ok. It will free up a lot of space that is taken up by the photos. 1 Apr Res Away at Barrow win 7-1. Goals from Conor Swale (hat-trick) Danny Lloyd, Craig Carney, Dale McDonald and "A Trialist" put our lads top of the table.
I've been trying to look ahead to next season and how the leagues may look if we are promoted or if we stay as we are. The assumptions made are if we are promoted Fleetwood are also, if we are not, Fleetwood and Alfreton are. In the Unibond Bradford and Guiseley are promoted. However we are three teams short. No idea where they will come from?!
