SOUTHPORT 5(FIVE) STAFFORD RANGERS 1 Well, we didn't see that one coming did we. Absolutely delighted today, a great win which could well have been more. Two for surely the only real live contender for player of the season, Carl Baker, two for Maamria and a super free kick from Boydy. A decent following of 221(standing) Stafford fans pushed the gate over the 1000 mark but there were a number of stayaways today which was sad to see and they missed probably the best home showing of the season. It made a nice change to see a few smiles on the faces of the fans in the shop at the end of the game. we all know it is all too late but a few wins would at least be nice to see the season out. I had been thinking that there appeared to be a lack of togetherness in the team just lately but they certainly celebrated the goals as a unit and looked like they wanted it badly. I'm sure Carl will be on his way at the end of the season onwards and upwards hopefully not to Morecambe!. I hope he gets a chance at a League 2 Club to see what he can do, he deserves a go at least.

27 Mar Home v Halifax Town 7.45. SOUTHPORT 1 HALIFAX 1. Yet another late goal conceded denies us the three points. It was coming though from the moment Rowland got sent off, we were under the cosh and how we managed to hang on until 91 minutes 25 seconds I will never know. If there was any lingering hope of staying up, it went at that moment. The other results just compounded the certainty that we are on our way down.
