ARCHIVE NEWS JULY 09 to DECEMBER 09

31 Dec Stalybridge match will be replayed with a provisional date of 9th March. The bookings still count from Monday's game but it doesn't count as one of Bradley Barnes's suspended games. For anyone interested the gate was 1088 which would easily have been Stalybridge's best of season.

30 Dec There is still no decision on the Stalybridge game despite speculation that the game will be replayed on 2nd March. If a replay is deemed necessary it is more likely to go ahead on 9th March.

29 Dec Still awaiting a verdict from yesterday.  My own view is it will have to be replayed as common sense doesn't seem to play much of a part in things these days. Both managers are happy to accept the 0-0 as are both clubs. It is an interesting one. People are quoting a precedent in Nuneaton v Worcester but in that game there was a positve result at the time of the abandonement(2-0) this time it was all square. Yesterday I would guess both sides would be content with a draw. Come March things may be different, both sides might desperately need a win. Stalybridge have a big fixture backlog and may have fallen away, or be top, we may have had a blip and need the three points. It was a shame the way it ended. I thought it was a decent game and whilst it didn't hit the heights of Boxing Day both sides created chances and it could have gone either way. I hope if it has to be replayed Stalybridge consider the travelling fans. It was a dreadful journey for a lot of people yesterday with delays no matter which way you went both going and coming home. At least on a cold Tuesday night in March it should be quieter on the roads.

28 Dec Away at Stalybridge Celtic Inspection at 10.15 Awaiting result. GAME ON! I have a horrible feeling we may have a wasted journey but it is the match ref that has given the game the green light so we have to set off. The car park may well be closed for safety reasons.

I did say I hope we don't have a wasted journey but didn't expect it for the reason it was! Floodlight failure after 84 minutes with the score at 0-0. I am not including it in any records at this stage but my understanding is the whole situation is subject to referral to the Conference Board. It's not the first time we have had the floodlights fail at Stalybridge but last time they came back on.

The lights well and truly went out! You can just about make out the CELTIC on the seats in the stand in the little light that remained.

27 Dec Despite the best efforts of our Chief Safety Officer we have some great pictures(100) available from yesterday, starting in the early morning with the snow clearance through to the end of match celebrations. I can put them all on a disc if anyone wants them and makes a donation of £4 to Trust In Yellow. E-mail me at rob@southportfcstats.co.uk if you would like a copy.

26 Dec Home v Fleetwood. First v Second. SOUTHPORT 5 FLEETWOOD 0 What a fantastic day. The hard work of the morning was well worthwhile after a performance like that. There is a "stewards enquiry" about the goal scorers. I have gone with the official line at present of Davis 2, Kilheeney and Powell 2, but my own view is Simm got one that is currently credited to Powell. My back is never going to be the same again after the shovelling but the pain was diminished after such an emphatic display. It was great to see so many people turn up to help get the game on. The full story of the day will be in the Alfreton programme and it will be well worth a read as so much went on from 8am to 5.30pm. Anybody know a good masseuse?!

The gate of 1840 was our highest ever home Conference North attendance. It was our 12th highest in our NL years.

25 December Happy Christmas!

Looking more promising for tomorrow but still a fair bit of snow to shift. Brushes and shovels required at the ground from 9am. At least it will work off the excesses of today out of the system. Better than a sponsored walk to Burscough? I could have done a sponsored pitch clearance if I'd known it was going to be like this.

Hoping Earl gets a winning goal tomorrow or on New Years Day as Steve Wignall has doubled his pledge to £400 if he gets a winning goal in either of the Fleetwood games.

24 Dec It looks to be touch and go for Saturday. I was at the ground at 4pm today and there is a good depth of snow on the pitch but it is soft underneath. The Club have appealed for volunteers to be at the ground for 9am on Boxing Day with spades and shovels to help clear the pitch of the snow. I think a lot will depend on how hard the forecast frost is tonight and how quick the thaw sets in. As for Stalybridge on Monday? Again it looks 50/50. I do hope we get some football on.

21 Dec Formby Res v Southport Res MATCH OFF

Hinckley v Southport arranged for Monday February 8th.

I will be in the Club Shop from 5pm to 8pm for any last minute purchases. The latest edition of the new magazine Non League 24 will be on sale for £3.95.

19 Dec Away at Hinckley United. No coach due to lack of bookings. One spare seat in car leaving Ainsdale at 10.30 to get to Hinckley reasonably early to sample the delights of the excellent cuisine on offer at the ground. This will of course be weather permitting, the forecast isn't looking too good at present.

After an early morning pitch inspection today's game is off.

Only one game survives the freeze. Fleetwood v Stafford which finishes 2-1 to Fleetwood who come from behind with a late winner and move into second place to set up a top v second clash on Boxing Day. Fleetwood went to great lengths to get this game on. Anyone would think they had a key player (s) suspended and wanted to get the game on so he/they would serve the suspension in this game rather than against us?!

17 Dec Southport Reserves 4 v Lancaster City Reserves 1.

15 Dec FAT Trophy Replay at Gainsborough Trinity. GAINSBOROUGH 1 SOUTHPORT 0 Full site update will take place Wednesday once I can gather together all the details. Not at game so no comments from me.

14 Dec FA Trophy Draw:

AFC Wimbledon v Wrexham or Altrincham
Worcester City v Carshalton Athletic or Northwood
Stevenage Borough v Vauxhall Motors
Blyth Spartans v Guiseley
Cambridge United v Eastbourne Borough
Gateshead or Harrogate Town v Arlesey Town or Chippenham Town
Oxford United v Woking
Stalybridge Celtic v Corby Town
Kidderminster Harriers v Hampton & Richmond Borough or Lewes
Newport County v York City
Workington v Rushden & Diamonds
Chelmsford City or Truro City v Crawley Town
Fleetwood Town v Dover Athletic
Gainsborough Trinity v Tamworth
Maidenhead United v Barrow
Salisbury City v Maidstone United or Histon

12 Dec Home v Gainsborough Trinity FA Trophy 1st Round SOUTHPORT 2 GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY 2. Goals from Zac Aley and Chris Simm. Sean Lake (pictured) makes his debut and Chris Price replaces Steve Daly to make his first appearance of the season. It's the result nobody wanted, least of all me, as I will miss the replay and my 100% attendance record will be down the pan again. At least Hinckley also drew at home to York so they too face a tough replay.

Three more book signings bring the total to 62. Thanks to Mac Anderson who captured Jon Gautrey, John Morgan and Paul Comstive. If anyone is going to a game where a SFC Non League player is playing, please take the book with you to get the signature. Contact me for details.

Phil Carder maintains his lead in the PREDICTION LEAGUE. He's been top for most of the season, will he last the pace?

9 Dec Burscough Reserves v Southport Reserves. MATCH OFF

5 Dec Home v Solihull SOUTHPORT 3 SOLIHULL MOORS 0. Another game of two halves. Poor first, very good second. Goals from Matty McGinn with two and Chris Lever. Disappointing gate of just 733, after last Saturday's showing I would have hoped for a few more than that. Bradley Barnes sent off after being on the field for a very short time. We stay eight points clear with only Stalybridge who have five games in hand able to overtake us on level games.

Fleetwood coach is full with just three places remaining on the Stalybridge coach.

1 Dec TIY Open Meeting. All three matches played tonight saw the clubs concerned have their lowest gate of the season.

30 Nov Away at Hyde United. HYDE UNITED 1 SOUTHPORT 1. A poor first half saw Hyde go in 1-0 up. Improved in the second period but still not firing on all cylinders. Hit the woodwork three times and missed several gilt edged chances. The goal came from Steve Daly, his 50th league goal and he is now alone in third place in the all time NON LEAGUE GOALS CLUB.

29 Nov After a week of horrible e-mail problems, I am hopeful they are now sorted out. I can only apologise to everyone for the delayed responses

28 Nov Home v Corby Town SOUTHPORT 4 CORBY 0. Superb display sweeps Corby away. Easily the best home performance of the season and possibly the last two seasons. It was a pleasure to watch with football being played as it should be played. Goals from Ciaran Kilheeney, a born again Michael Powell brace and Chris Simm. It could easily have been 7. I find it hard to pick a MOTM when everyone plays so well and in the end it is narrowed down to Moogs or Powelly just plumping for Moogs which is harsh on Michael!

26 Nov IF ANYONE HAS CONTACTED ME BY E-MAIL IN THE LAST FEW DAYS I WON'T HAVE RECEIVED IT. I AM HAVING SERIOUS E-MAIL PROBLEMS. PLEASE USE MY MOBILE (077900-41514) IF YOU WISH TO CONTACT ME.

I have been spending so much time trying to find the Club Shop order book I just haven't had time to get my e-mail problem sorted out!!!!!

24 Nov FA TROPHY REPLAY Home v Stourbridge. This will be our 500th NL Cup game. SOUTHPORT 4 STOURBRIDGE 2 Goals from Chris Lever, Steve Daly two, one from a penalty, and Bradley Barnes. Another night of atrocious conditions but quite an entertaining match and we progress to meet Gainsborough on 12th December after they beat North Ferriby on pens.

23 Nov FA Trophy Draw: Will be here Monday evening. Lancs Cup Draw also made.

Once more it looks like we will have to be on weather watch tomorrow before the replay with Stourbridge as the forecast is for more heavy rain. Only an eight page programme to produce for this match which was something of a relief with the run of home games coming up, particularly if we get through tomorrow. I am still after more programme contributions so if you have anything at all please let me have it.

21 Nov FA Trophy Away at Stourbridge.

The heavy rain that is forecast for all areas today looks like hitting the Midlands around the 2pm mark. Let's just hope it isn't as heavy as they are saying and the match starts and we get through a full 90 minutes. I wonder when the last time was we played an SFC? Scarborough is the answer, I think.

STOURBRIDGE 0 SOUTHPORT 0. That was a wet one but thankfully the worst of it stayed away until the latter stages of the game. I didn't think it was too bad a match in the awful conditions.

Advance notice of a great TIY Golf Day planned for April 16th next year at Southport Municipal . Terry McDonald is organising it on behalf of Trust In Yellow and already has over 60 players signed up. It promises to be a great day so pen it into next years diaries now. Liam, Mal Liptrot, Chris Price and Dom Morley will make up one of the Four Balls. All supporters will be welcomed and will have a chance to play a round with former Southport Legends. Sadly the current squad won't be allowed to play as the day is the day before we win the league at home to Hyde on the 17th!

19 Nov Southport Res v Barrow Res 7.45pm MATCH OFF

15 Nov Hyde have their best gate of the season for the visit of Northwich. Site updated after today's game including PREDICTION LEAGUE. A couple of amendments also made, the dreadful BSN site still doesn't recognise 0-0 draws but yesterday totally ignored the Farsley v Solihull game as well which finished 1-0.

TIY still need a few bookings to enable the coach to Stourbridge to run. If it doesn't go we will have one car place available leaving Ainsdale at 11.30.

14 Nov Home v Ilkeston Town. It was wet overnight with some torrential rain but the pitch has held up well according to Ken Hilton and the game is on.

SOUTHPORT 1 ILKESTON 1 A fair result in a game in which I think both sides would be happy with the point. The conditions were dreadful. If anyone didn't venture down the popular side you wouldn't have realised how awkward they were. Robbie Booth equalised in the 66th minute just before I think he was about to be subbed. I know one happy punter tonight who had the 1-1 draw as a banker! Still top. Fleetwood beat Redditch 8-0!

13 Nov Excellent talks from Geoff and Mike thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended.

12 Nov is a special date for the diary. Michael Braham and Geoff Wilde will be talking to supporters about the history of the club, the players they have met, the more unusual stories about the club and available to answer any questions supporters have (yellow and red cards may be shown for any dissent) . The evening kicks off at 7.45 with the first half running for 45 minutes before a half hour break for a rapid fire quiz when the crowd can buy a question for a £1 and if you get it right you enter the draw to win a signed Southport shirt. The second half will also last 45 minutes and as long as there is no extra time or penalties, the referee will decide when to blow the final whistle. A great evening of entertainment is planned. Tickets are available from Tuesday 13 October at £4 with Trust in Yellow members paying £3. Tickets can be ordered by phone to me on 077900-41514 or by e-mail to rob@southportfcstats.co.uk

11 Nov TIY hope to run a coach for the FA Trophy game at Stourbridge on Saturday 21st November 2009.
Departure time is 11.00am from Haig Ave (Arion 10.40, Crown 10.50, George 10.55).
Members: £12 in advance, £15 on the day Non-Members: £17 in advance,£20 on the day . If you wish to book, please do as soon as possible so we know the numbers. Either call in the Trust office on sat, before or after the game, or call Chairman Alan Scarisbrick on 07980 911 693.

10 Nov Home v Redditch United SOUTHPORT 2 REDDITCH UNITED 0. A win that puts us 6 points ahead at the top. Goals from Ashley Winn and Michael Powell. Redditch put up a good fight as they did at Corby on Saturday who they had held to a 2-2 draw so it was a welcome three points. MOTM was Earl again, he was outstanding.

7 Nov Away Workington. Message received from Ken Hilton at 9.00am. Match On. Pitch Perfect. Forecast is showers.

WORKINGTON 0 SOUTHPORT 2. A solid performance in difficult conditions. Goals from Chris Lever and Steve Daly (his 49th league goal for the club) gave us a comfortable win. Workington started quite well and if they had someone who could finish their neat play it could well have been a different story but once we scored we settled down and ran out worthy winners. It sure was a wet journey home, thankfully the really heavy stuff waited until the match had finished as the already heavy pitch would have quickly become a quagmire.

5 Nov Southport Res v Curzon Ashton Res Postponed.

4 Nov FA Youth Cup Away at Bradford City 7pm Kick Off. BRADFORD CITY 3 SOUTHPORT 1.

3 Nov Home v Holker Old Boys in Lancs Cup. Southport win 3-1 after extra time. Goals from MOTM Bradley Barnes and two from Chris Simm. It was cold.

2 Nov FA Trophy Draw sees us drawn away to Stourbridge. Ground Number 183. If anyone is interested, there is night racing at Wolverhampton on the night of the match.

1 Nov There is a great competition in yesterday's matchday programme that I am pleased to be able to include on this website. All you have to do is predict the number of goals scored in next weekend's 40 First Round FA Cup ties! Entries are to be in by 3pm on Saturday 7th November. The prize is a copy of the 2010 Non League Club Directory worth £19.95. To enter you can text your guess to 077900-41514 please include your name, or e-mail rob@southportfcstats.co.uk headed COMPETITION ENTRY or you can enter by post to Southport Football Club(Competition) Haig Avenue, Southport, PR8 6JZ.

I need to check the position with yellow cards as they seemed to be flying about a bit yesterday. Kevin Lee recently served a suspension for his red card against Spennymoor but he has now accumulated 5 yellows so another suspension will kick in.

31 Oct Home Eastwood Town SOUTHPORT 5 EASTWOOD 1. An emphatic win with some great football being played, it was lovely to watch. Goals from Michael Powell(5), two own goals (50&52) the second of which takes the honour of being our 1900th NL league goal, Alan Moogan(78) and Steve Daly(90+2). The downsides were a sending off for Ashley Winn and Kevin Lee picking up his 5th yellow card of the season. I don't think we will be winning any fair play leagues this season. A very enjoyable afternoon.

29 Oct It is now official. We have never had all three subs score and you will be able to read a full article all about it in the Ilkeston programme. We do wonder if it has ever been done anywhere before. I guess it has but very rarely I would suggest.

28 Oct Fleetwood Res v Southport Res Site updated after last night's game, delayed due to me being stuck on a train home from Carlisle (with work) for 95 minutes. Reserves draw 2-2 at Fleetwood.

We have now scored 1897 Non League league goals, I wonder who will take the honour of getting 1900.

Great looking at the table today, top of the league once again. The last time we were top was 29 November 2008 when after a 2-0 win against Solihull we reached the top. Incidentally almost a year ago tonight we played Vauxhall at home in the league and won 5-2 with Kevin Lee again on the scoresheet.

Have we ever had all three subs score? That is the most asked question today. I can't find any Non League occurrence yet but will dig a bit deeper to confirm.

Steve Daly has now scored 47 league goals and now sits alone in fourth place, quickly closing in on third.

27 Oct Away Vauxhall Motors- VAUXHALL MOTORS 1 SOUTHPORT 3 and we go top of the league. It was the most abject display you can imagine in the first half but a much improved second period. All three subs scored which could well be a first for us. It will be first v second on Saturday as Eastwood also won.

26 Oct We will be top if we win tomorrow at Vauxhall as all the teams above us are not playing. The only thing stopping it would be Eastwood winning by five goals more than us! It could also mean that it will be first v second on Saturday. A few "coulds" in there but you have to be optimistic don't you.

25 Oct Gateshead are rewarded with a cracking home game against League One Brentford. Northwich get Charlton and the best of all is Paulton Rovers v Norwich.

The gate of 402 at Gateshead yesterday was the lowest in the whole of the 4th Qualifying Round. There were around 50 travelling fans included in that as well. That must also be an all time low for us in a 4th Qualifying Round match in the FA Cup. It is hardly surprising though. The cost of travel, entry and food makes it an expensive trip.

24 Oct Away Gateshead FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round. It will be weather watch on the way up today as the forecast is dreadful. GATESHEAD 3 SOUTHPORT 0

The weather was indeed dreadful and we have to be grateful that the heavy rain didn't start until 12.30 as there was a bit of standing water on the pitch as it was. I felt we played well in the first half and were unlucky to be a goal down at half time. The second half was poor and Gateshead seemed to adapt better to being down to 10 men than us. Rob Marsh-Evans was sent off for retaliation after being smashed in the face. Disappointing to go out so tamely. MOTM was between Earl and Chris Simm. I plumped for Earl in the end.

Bamber Bridge Res 0  Southport Res 3. FINAL SCORE

22 Oct I'm still trying to find out a bit more about our Youth Cup history, if anyone has any details please let me know. It is easy to get mixed up with the Lancashire Youth Cup which we have had a few games in. I am looking for FA Youth Cup match details, any help would be appreciated.

I've started learning a bit of Russian today, you never know when it may come in handy.

21 Oct TIY coach to Gateshead is running.

20 Oct Southport FC Youth v Hallam Youth FA Youth Cup 7.45pm Kick Off Southport Youth 8 (EIGHT) Hallam Youth 0. The win sees us away to Bradford City in the first round proper. The lads were simply far too good for a spirited Hallam team. There are a couple of players in particular that are surely destined for better things. I fancy becoming a football agent and reaping the rewards of the 10% fees. Goals scored by Sam Finley(22) Jake Ellis(27), Connor Millington(43), Dale McDonald(62) John Hedges(69 & 83), Danny Lloyd(75&85). It could easily have been 20-0 such was our dominance. I am sure it is the first time we have reached the first round proper for a  very long time. I can't recall a previous occasion. The attendance was 90.

Sam Finley beats the 'keeper for the first of our eight goals. There will be a Youth Cup feature in the next home matchday programme with lots more photos, care of the missus.

18 Oct TIY will run a coach to Gateshead if there are sufficient confirmed and paid bookings. A decision will be taken on Tuesday as to whether or not a coach will run. The coach will depart from Haig Avenue at 10am. The fare is £23 to members if paid in advance, £26 on the day. Non Members £28 if paid in advance and £31 on the day. Bookings can be made by phone to Alan Scarisbrick on 07980-911693 and advance payments made at the Youth Cup match on Tuesday.

Thanks once again to Alan Jones for the new header on the site.

17 Oct Away AFC Telford United 3pm AFC TELFORD 0 SOUTHPORT 2. Goals from Chris Simm and a Ciaran Kilheeney penalty give us a fully deserved win. Killer also missed a second half pen. We created chances all afternoon and the first half display was by far the best we have seen this season. An outstanding showing. My MOTM was Chris Simm. Matty McGinn's first half shot that hit the bar would have sorted out our goal of the season if it had gone in, what an effort it was. The one black spot was the four bookings which take Flynny and Earl onto four each and RME is on three for the season.

Droylsden lost. We remain in second on goal difference with a game in hand.

Anybody seen my beach ball!!!

PREDICTION COMP UPDATED

Half a million hits reached today.

15 Oct Reserves Home to Stalybridge Celtic. FINAL SCORE SOUTHPORT RES 2 STALYBRIDGE 2. An entertaining game, particularly the second half. Bradley Barnes had a very good game and scored a screamer of a goal. Jon Bathurst getting the other. Highlight of the night was Robbie Booth's audacious attempt to score straight from the kick off which looked like it was going in until the keeper, frantically back pedalling, just palmed the ball onto the bar and around the post for a corner. Shaun Holden was once again in impressive form. Regular captain Sam Finley and Connor Millington were both absent but will be back for the big one next Tuesday, the winners of which will be away to Bradford City.

Match v Redditch rearranged for 10 November.

14 Oct You really can't beat Port Chat for entertainment. Love it or hate it, it really is the most entertaining forum in the Conference North by a mile. Some of the comments are beyond belief and threads dominated by too few but where else would you go from talking about a football match, through to discussing bullying, racism, paedophiles, psycopaths and the rest. It almost makes you want to join in....then again. It's no wonder it is banned in my place of employment. When you go on other forums with the possible exception of Telford, they are so dead. That's enough from me, got to get back on PC to see if we have moved on to any other major political issue.

13 Oct FA Cup Replay Home v Alfreton The winners will be away at Gateshead. SOUTHPORT 2 ALFRETON 1 Full site update Wednesday evening. A very enjoyable game saw us get through with a superb free-kick from Matty McGinn in the 29th minute, Alfreton equalised from what looked an absolute dead cert pen in the 52nd minute before"Killer" tucked away a penalty in the 79th minute. It did look a soft penalty and I think we were all surprised it was given but who cares when they go for you! Another super display from Powelly who is probably playing the best he has ever played for us at the moment. Chris Simm also had his best game so far but my MOTM was Matty McGinn another all round quality performance. It's now up to Gateshead once again.

11 Oct See 12 November for news of a great night with Geoff Wilde and Michael Braham.

Some good gates around yesterday in the FA Cup to show it still has that little bit of magic. The 613 at Alfreton was their best of season, Ilkeston v Eastwood saw 1138, Bury Town 1033, FC Halifax, 1459, Nuneaton 930 and Salford City attracted 391.

In the league Droylsden were denied a win by a late goal at Harrogate. Tony Gray again on the scoresheet.

FCUM and Stalybridge draw 3-3 today in front of 2819, I bet Stalybridge are rubbing their hands at the thought of a replay.

10 Oct FA Cup.Away to Alfreton Town.  MATCH ENDS 2-2 Full site update Sunday, I have a programme to write tonight. Redditch win so we won't be playing them on the 24th

Another late equaliser at Alfreton. 1 minute 37 seconds into 4 minutes of added time. It was a decent game, end to end and keenly contested. Alfreton are a big and powerful side who also like to play it in the air a fair bit so the ball wasn't on the pitch that much. Two goals for the in form Michael Powell.

It was our 96th FA Cup game

FROM ALFRETON WEBSITE FA CUP, SPONSORED BY E.ON, THIRD QUALIFYING ROUND
ALFRETON TOWN v SOUTHPORT IS A

Visiting fans can gain entry to the segregated area at the Impact Area by using the Alma Street visiting turnstiles ONLY.
Home fans will be able to gain access as normal via the home turnstiles at the Alma Street end and the Bentley Close/North Street entrances.

2009/10 SQUAD DETAILS including Squad Photo and Player Pics added.

7 Oct FA Youth Cup Away at Formby 7.30 Kick Off. FINAL SCORE FORMBY YOUTH 0 SOUTHPORT YOUTH 3. Southport will be home to Hallam in the next round, scheduled to take place w/c 19 October. Goals scored by John Hedges and two from Sam Finley, his first was possibly an own goal but his Dad says I have to give it to him! Attendance was 125.

Contrary to what has been posted by Tom Herold on Port Chat, there are plenty of seats available on the TIY coach on Saturday. The coach isn't full at all and bookings are still being taken. Ring Alan on 07980-911693. There is no problem with anyone organising their own coaches, the more the merrier, but please don't try and say you couldn't get on the coach, there is room for all twelve of the people who have booked on the mini-bus so far.

6 Oct Trust In Yellow Meeting.

3 Oct Away Solihull Moors-SOLIHULL 1 SOUTHPORT 1-A Kevin Lee goal in the 76th minute earned us a point in a scrappy game. Solihull took the lead direct from a free kick in the 12th minute following a goalkeeping error. The gate of 338 was Solihull's best of the season by 59 and there was a large travelling contingent of around the 130 mark with a good number of our Midlands based exiles in attendance. Very windy afternoon which didn't help matters.

1 Oct Reserves Home to Woodley Sports. A scintillating display by our reserves saw us come out worthy 3-1 winners against the league leaders. Goals scored by Johnny Hedges, Lewis Savva and Greg Mullin. Considering we had to use two subs inside 22 minutes it was an excellent effort. Once again Danny Lloyd was superb but Sam Finley is in a different class at this level. I offered his dad my services as his agent last night as long as I got a cut of any future fees! I do hope he goes on to do well in the game. Damien Eastham was also in top form in goal despite picking up an early injury. Disappointing attendance of 60but the lads thoroughly deserved the standing ovation they got at the end of the game.

You have to have a snigger at the Spennymoor forum. They are happy that they outsung and outplayed us. That's ok then. We scored three they scored one isn't it that that counts? No matter, we will have to out sing Man United in the third round at Old Trafford and that will be alright.

We may not have a home match until 31st October if we beat Alfreton and get drawn away on the 24th.

Reserve Team details updated.

27 Sept Anyone got any interesting pictures, articles, slides etc that are SFC related? Please get in touch, I am trying to build up a stash of things ready for programme use. The most popular feature in the programme is the old looking back articles and I would like to expand this further if possible. I particularly like the early Non League years articles as we have a bit of a void of information from that era.

26 Sept FA Cup Southport v Spennymoor Town. SOUTHPORT 3 SPENNYMOOR TOWN 1 Goals from Steve Daly from the penalty spot (very dubious decision), Michael Powell and Zac Aley. Spennymoor also got a rather gifted penalty although I was at the other end of the ground so difficult to tell. We made hard work of the second half but the main thing is we are through to the next round on 10th October. Kevin Lee received a straight red card which according to those down the side was harsh but the intervention of the Spennymoor bench made it worse than it was and the ref went straight for red as against a second yellow. Three match ban rather than one. Spennymoor played some good football in the second half and could have snatched a draw which looked highly unlikely at half time after we totally dominated the first half. Bookings also for Michael Powell, Alan Moogan and Chris Simm. My MOTM was Michael Powell closely followed by Matty McGinn. Thankfully no replay to travel to on Tuesday. The gate of 554 was our lowest home FA Cup gate for exactly 17 years when 542 attended the match against Chadderton. There were 98 standing Spennymoor fans included in that figure and I understand there were around 30 in the stand leaving just over 400 Southport supporters. Hopefully we will get a decent draw in the next round and a better gate.

After a lot of thought I will be starting up my views again (website birthday present) by popular request. I hadn't appreciated just how much people were missing them, particularly our exiled fans so they will be back from today. They will perhaps be a bit more circumspect than in the past but I will do my best to offer an honest assessment of matches and events. The hit count is down over 1000 a week since the views stopped so someone must have liked them. To those that don't like what I write I suggest you don't read them.

Website's 5th Birthday.

23 Sept Spennymoor have two coaches coming on Saturday. That will quadruple any away following we have had so far this season.

22 Sept FA Youth Cup away at Woodley Sports. A superb match saw our Youth team triumph 3-2. We were 2-1 down with 2 minutes to go but scored in the 89th and 91st minutes to go through. A great night's entertainment. This was Woodley's youth team as against their reserves who we play next Thursday in what promises to be a real cracker of a game. The lads were excellent tonight.

19 Sept Home v Farsley Celtic SOUTHPORT 2 FARSLEY CELTIC 3 ATT 743. Steve Daly got us off to a great start with a goal in the 20th minute but Celtic hit back with three second half goals. Chris Simm got a late consolation goal.

17 Sept Workington Reserves v Southport Reserves 1-1 Danny Lloyd scores in the 82nd minute

14 Sept Southport have been drawn at home to Spennymoor Town in the FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round.

13 Sept. I have updated the PREDICTION COMPETITION. I'm not doing too well with either of my entries, in fact when you have the same score as someone's late lamented budgie you know you have problems!

12 Sept Away at Gainsborough Trinity. GAINSBOROUGH 2 SOUTHPORT 4. Goals from KIlheeney(13), McGinn(39) and a couple for Daly on 61 and 70 minutes.

There are still a few players available for sponsorship in the programme. I'm having a go at getting them all sorted as some are feeling a bit left out. Those in need of a sponsor(£150) are, Bradley Barnes, Robbie Booth, Steve Daly, Shaun Gray, Matty McGinn, Tony McMillan, Alan Moogan, Chris Simm, Shaun Holden, Sam Finley, Allan Smart, Damian Eastham and Danny Lloyd.

11 Sept Very sad news to report that Mike Baker, brother of Carl sadly passed away yesterday.

10 Sept FA Youth Cup Home v Colne. Southport win 6-1.

9 Sept PREDICTION COMPETITION UPDATED.

8 Sept Home v Stafford Rangers SOUTHPORT 4 STAFFORD 2 Ciaran Kilheeney hat-trick and another for Earl. FULL SITE UPDATE WEDNESDAY EVENING. Hat-Tricks listed HERE

7 Sept Droylsden beat Harrogate 5-0 after beating Stafford 7-1 at the weekend. They did have their lowest gate of the season mind you and after a 7-1 win you would have hoped for more. Hyde also register their lowest gate of the season against Gloucester City

5 Sept Home v Hinckley United SOUTHPORT 1 HINCKLEY UNITED 1. A late "Killer" goal salvages a point. Hinckley score on 68 minutes with Ciaran's equaliser coming in the 88th.

Reserves lose 2-0 at Woodley Sports.

4 Sep Earlier today Farsley Celtic were closed down but by 5pm tonight they were back up and running again which is great news for all Blue Square North fans. However it still isn't clear if it's a permanent reprieve or just temporary. Their game against Stalybridge was originally called off but is now back on. It does bring back the memories of 1976, 1978 and 1980.

3 Sep There is a very strong rumour circulating on the Conf North Forum and Farsley forum that Farsley have today folded. This is still to be confirmed and may of course be nonsense.

31 Aug Away Northwich Vics-Only two places left on TIY coach. The table below is the table without points deductions. Northwich are currently 8th in this table and Farsley, the other team with a points deduction are 7th..

NORTHWICH 1 SOUTHPORT 1. Northwich score in the 38th minute. Our equaliser came from Steve Daly, from the penalty spot, our third pen of the season, in the 84th minute.

A reminder to all Southport fans going to Northwich that you have to purchase your ticket before going to the turnstile and it is £12 for terrace admission.

Sam Finley makes his debut to earn player number 604. He was 17 years and 25 days old so is behind Josh Hine in the age list.

20 Aug Reserves Home v AFC Fylde Reserves Win 6-1.

19 Aug NO MORE UPDATES TO SITE UNTIL SATURDAY 22 AUGUST AFTER THE MATCH AT ALFRETON, essential computer maintenance.

18 Aug Home v Stalybridge Kick Off 7.45pm. SOUTHPORT 2 STALYBRIDGE CELTIC 1 A first half brace for Ciaran Kilheeney bringing his total to 5 in 4 games.

Visit to Library undertaken and I am now missing just the one name, unfortunately it is a Smith who came on as a 75th minute sub in a match on 9 April 1986 at Prescot Cables and was never seen again. We did indeed have a Fitzpatrick, Andy, who played one match in the 86/87 season and had one sub appearance. The Tinsley is a Tansey. (see 14 Aug) who must qualify for our shortest ever one sub wonder? He came on as an injury time sub and never played again although he was on the bench, but unused, in the next match.

17 Aug The first PREDICTION LEAGUE TABLE is now available and will be updated after all games. Check the date at the top of the table to see when it was last updated.

15 Aug Away at Ilkeston ILKESTON 3 SOUTHPORT 2 Ilkeston go three up through Ricketts on 44 and 50 minutes with Dan Holmes getting the third. Southport pull two back through MOTM Ciaran Kilheeney and Steve Daly.

14 Aug Player Lists updated. Still missing forenames for the following 6 players although I have a feeling that Fitzpatrick is actually Fitzharris but another visit to the library is required to confirm this.

13 Aug Southport Reserves v Fleetwood Town Reserves. The Trust In Yellow sponsored Reserves kick off their Lancashire League season with an attractive home fixture.

Final score was SFC Reserves 3 Fleetwood Reserves 1. I have set up a page with reserve fixtures, results and scorers but please take care with the fixtures they will be subject to regular change.

11 Aug Away at Blyth Spartans. BLYTH SPARTANS 0 SOUTHPORT 2 ATTENDANCE 737 Goalscorers, Chris Simm after 3 minutes and an early contender for Goal Of The Season from Ciaran Kilheeney after 60 minutes.

Earl Davis makes his 100th league appearance.

10 Aug Rob Marsh-Evans 601, Bradley Barnes 602 and Chris Simm 603 were the new player numbers for Saturday.

8 Aug SOUTHPORT 3 GLOUCESTER CITY 2 ATTENDANCE 780. Goals scored by Matty McGinn, Earl Davis and Ciaran Kilheeney.

Earl's first ever goal for the club after 133 games and 32 minutes games earned Trust In Yellow £200 thanks to Steve Wignall's pledge of £200 per goal scored by Earl in league matches. He thought he was on a safe bet but good old Earl popped up at exactly the right time. It was his 99th league appearance.

PREDICTION COMPETITION IS NOW CLOSED. Thank you to all those who have entered in what has been a record year. I have lots of entries to enter onto the master spreadsheet which is great. The first table will appear after the first three games have been played and will then be updated after every game.

7 Aug Less than 24 hours to enter the Prediction Competition.

10 July I am nearing completion (at last) of my complete list of players who have made a Non League appearance for the club. It's not been as straightforward as I thought it was going to be and has been quite a big project. The summary list is HERE showing numerically how many players appeared in League and Cup games. Hopefully by the end of this weekend the lists will be up showing, by name, appearances season by season and I will then put the season by season match by match line up lists on.

Farsley are reinstated to Conference North, was it ever in doubt? February 14th is firmly penned in my diary for a return to The Throstles Nest.

3rd July Fixtures HERE  TEAM BY TEAM FIXTURES ARE HERE

Looks like the fixtures issued today will be changing as Farsley have been removed from Conference North. An appeal is pending. I did so enjoy my trip there last season as well!!!!!!!

If anybody can help me put first names to the following players it would be appreciated. I have shown the season they played. The list is of players who never made a league appearance and in some cases may only have made a very brief subs appearance. Some are not who I thought they were!

Thank you already to Paul Tevendale who has given me 10 and Mike Hopkins who has added another 5 definites. Just the 15  below to go now.
