FAN PROFILE

 NAME: Jonathan O’Byrne (aka Beast)

FIRST HOME GAME EVER SEEN: It was against Marine in the early 1990’s and ended as a 0-0 draw.

FIRST AWAY GAME EVER SEEN: It was against Morecambe in the Lancashire Junior Cup Final in the 93/94 season at Burnden Park and we lost 4-3 after extra time with Paul Comstive, Steve Haw and a David Gamble penalty being our goalscorers.

BEST GAME EVER SEEN: Southport vs Halifax in 1994. We won 4-0.  I remember it was a Tuesday night game and the game was televised on some form of Live TV. Harvey Cunningham scored a couple with Derek Goulding and that man Gambo getting the others.

WORST GAME EVER SEEN: It was Christmas time of 1998/99 season. A game that saw Lee Trundle’s debut. Paul Futcher was in charge and the weather was terrible and we got absolutely annhilated by Barrow 4-0 at Haig Ave.

BEST OCCASIONS: Winning the Unibond in 1992/93 was a special occasion, but it was recently eclipsed by the culmination of the nail bitting title race between ourselves and Droylsden when we won the league at Harrogate on the last day of the season

WORST OCCASIONS: The season we got relegated. We seemed doomed for so long. That fatal day at Stevenage was the final blow and we were soon struggling in the Unibond as well.

FAVOURITE EVER PLAYER: Has to be Steve Haw

FUNNIEST MOMENT WATCHING SFC: Having played football in the morning I twisted my ankle. A ball came on to the terrace at Hilton Park and in trying to volley it back, I slipped on my ankle and sliced it out of the ground to receive a good mocking from David “Fattie” Felgate.

BEST GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER: It was a rather insignificant strike in a dour Lancashire cup tie by Lee Trundle, a talented player who’d lost his way in the game. He shimmied past two players on the wing before curling the ball round the keeper off the far post from 30 yards.

BEST GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC: Haig Ave. I love the place!
