STANDING ORDER FOR GOALDEN LOTTERY

NAME: Martin Butterfield (Metropolis)

FIRST HOME GAME EVER SEEN: I watched the Port as a kid for a few seasons back in the early 70s, but not sure which was the first game. The first game 'second time around' though, was the 1-1 draw against Emley in the FA Cup in September 1996.

FIRST AWAY GAME EVER SEEN Hednesford - October 1996. I was surprised at how many Port fans had travelled to the game. Great atmosphere... Andy Whittaker netting the only goal of the game.

BEST GAME EVER SEEN Tricky one... The 2-1 win away at Mansfield in the FA Cup in 1998 takes some beating though.

WORST GAME EVER SEEN Probably the 5-0 thrashing at Kidderminster in 1999, a game which ultimately put an end to Paul Futcher's spell in charge

BEST OCCASIONS Despite the scoreline, its got to be Wembley. To see your team play on such a prestigious stage was fantastic

WORST OCCASIONS No-one likes being relegated!

FAVOURITE EVER PLAYER: Dave Gamble... not the best player to ever don a Southport shirt, but he certainly had a flair for the spectacular

FUNNIEST MOMENT WATCHING SFC: You really had to be there, but it was an evening game at home to Gateshead in 1996. A Gateshead player got injured and  their trainer started running on to the pitch. The trainer must have been about 4 ft 10, and watching him run across the pitch at full speed was hilarious. Someone nearby in the stand shouted "Turn back. You'll never make it!". Like I said, I guess you had to be there.

BEST GOAL SEEN SCORED BY SOUTHPORT PLAYER Lee Elam's goal in the FA Cup at Doncaster in October 2000... he seemed to beat everybody before slotting the ball past the keeper.

BEST GROUND VISITED WATCHING SFC:       Nene Park, Rushden & Diamonds. Although Westfield Lane (Frickley Athletic) has a charm all of its own... and a slag heap all of its own!

ANY ANECDOTES: On the way to Wembley in 1998, it was great driving down the M6 seeing all the other cars daubed in yellow and black. Yet after we went down the M42 and got on to the M40, there were no other Southport fans around, just loads of cars daubed in red and white with Cheltenham Town fans peering out giving us strange looks. Then I realised where I'd got the directions to Wembley from...the Cheltenham away programme from when we played there on the last day of the season. Oops! The directions turned out to be spot-on, but it would have been nice to have done the entire journey along with all the other Southport fans!
