STALYBRIDGE 0 SOUTHPORT 1-Full site update Wednesday evening but it was a very enjoyable evening!! A goal by Steve Daly (his 55th which could become his 53rd) in Liam's 252nd game (which could become his 250th) gave us a very very good victory in our 1339th league game (which could become 1337) Chris Lever's 92nd game, you guessed it... it could become his 90th. As you can see it is a nightmare scenario if the record is going to be wiped out. The lights stayed on and we had a great night. The table below is without Farsley's record. Official confirmation that their record is to be expunged is still awaited.
7 Mar Poundland are reporting a boom in sales of Glo-Sticks ready for Tuesday! Top Of The Table if the worst happens to Farsley Celtic.
6 Mar Home v Gainsborough Trinity. SOUTHPORT 0 GAINSBOROUGH 0. Not the best of games to say the least. The ball spent far too much time in the air. We were crying out for someone to run at the Gainsborough defence, as we were at Corby last week but sadly nobody was able to do it. Fleetwood have a good 2-0 win at Hinckley. Reserves Results and Fixtures updated Demand for coach places to The Reebok was high today and the signs are very promising for a very good following. Trust members need only pay £6 in advance for this game. Full details shortly. 4 Mar Somewhat belatedly I have updated the PREDICTION LEAGUE after Tuesday's games. Let's hope we get a game on on Saturday. There aren't that many free dates available now. I have copies of the postponed match programme from Tuesday available for sale to anyone who wants one, although I say it myself, it is a pretty good read! Mail me and I can send one out for £2.50 plus 90pence First Class Postage or call in to the shop on Saturday. 2 Mar Home v Alfreton Town MATCH OFF due to a frozen pitch. 1 Mar Finally agreed date of 14 April for LJC Final at The Reebok. 27 Feb Away at Corby. CORBY TOWN 1 SOUTHPORT 1. A goal after just 65 seconds for Corby after bad defending was equalised after 21 minutes by "Killer" with his 15th league goal of the season. Ground Number 184 for me and not going to be added to my favourites list. The date of the final of the Lancashire Cup is still in doubt despite Clitheroe advertising it at 17th March and selling tickets. 25 Feb Res H v Formby Drew 1-1 Clitheroe are reporting our Cup Final will be played on 17th March which will mean our league game v Workington will have to be rearranged. Still need official confirmation. 24 Feb Lancs Cup Semi-Final at Leyland v Lancaster City. SOUTHPORT 5 LANCASTER CITY 2. Final at The Reebok awaits. An enjoyable game. Goals from an own goal, Adam Flynn which could easily have been classed as an own goal but I am giving Flynny the benefit of the doubt, Steve Daly penalty, Chris Simm and Robbie Booth. Lancaster were well beaten but gave a decent showing in the second half with Mark Jackson looking very good when he came on as sub and showed up much better than the much heralded Jordan Connerton. 20 Feb Res Away at Stalybridge 2pm at Mossley FC. Win 3-0 with goals from Danny Lloyd, Ciaran Kilheeney and Robbie Booth. RESERVE TABLE AS AT 20 FEB
Fleetwood lose 2-0 at Gainsborough in a real coupon buster and yes it did bust my coupon! Alfreton hammer Farsley 6-2 and move into third place ten points behind us and sixteen behind Fleetwood. All in all a good day for us without kicking a ball. Fleetwood now travel to Stalybridge on Tuesday whilst Alfreton are at Droylsden on Monday. Quite a bit of movement in the PREDICTION LEAGUE this weekend. 18 Feb The Corby v Blyth game was abandoned at half time due to fog with Corby leading 2-0. That is one big journey for Blyth. An 8 hour round trip! 14 Feb PREDICTION COMP & PLAYER LISTS UPDATED. I have added columns to show the DOB's and POB's for all our players but they haven't been filled in as yet. A lights theme night has been suggested for the game at Stalybridge with one or two people already having obtained miners helmets! Sounds like a good idea and a bit of fun to me! 13 Feb Away at Farsley Celtic. FARSLEY 0 SOUTHPORT 2. Comfortable win in the end after a shaky first half. A goal in added time in the first half (1min 23 secs into 1 minute of added time) by Steve Daly, his 54th league goal and Ciaran Kilheeney gave us the points. Great to see "Killer" back on the scoresheet after a lean spell. Fleetwood win again but Hinckley only draw at Vauxhall to open up an 11 point gap between ourselves and third place and a 16 point gap in the play off zone. It's a pity we will now fall behind on games with Fleetwood as they travel to Eastwood on Tuesday, Gainsboro on Saturday and Stalybridge a week on Tuesday before we play again. 12 Feb Worth remembering that Farsley are actually 9th in the points table without their points deduction and they have beaten us already this season. Won't be easy. Hopefully the missing Earl and Powelly from Monday will be back. 10 Feb Fair play to the Hinckley fans who say we were the best side to visit this season, that sums it all up for me, we played so well, at least until 3-1, but got nothing. Looks like weather watch again for Saturday with snow forecast once more. If it does go by the wayside we will again have a long gap between league games. 8th-27th Feb. 8 Feb Away at Hinckley United. HINCKLEY 4 SOUTHPORT 1. Despite what the scoreline suggests, we actually played quite well and how we went in 2-0 down at half time was beyond me and many watching Hinckley fans, we should have been 5-2 up! Once we scored I felt we would go on and win it but some uncharacteristic poor defending was our downfall and we ended up with 10 men, after Matty got sent off, and going down to a 4-1 defeat which flattered Hinckley. Steve Daly took his goal well to join "Killer" on 13 goals. It was his 53rd league goal in total and 81st in all games. 6 Feb Home v Blyth Spartans. SOUTHPORT 3 BLYTH 2. Goals from Earl Davis and a double for Chris Simm. Not the best of performances but another 3 points on the board and a 9 point haul since the weather break. Simmo was excellent today and easily my MOTM. We are ahead of our 2004/05 season points total. I think some people expect other teams just to lie down and let us play. Blyth were up for the game today and made life hard but we coped, got three points and move on to the big test on Monday. PREDICTION COMP UPDATED 5 Feb The TIY coach to Hinckley on Monday is definitely running. As far as I can tell, Sam Finley became the youngest ever captain of Southport in a first team fixture when he captained the team against Skem on Tuesday. He was just 17 years 182 days old. 4 Feb Appearances & Scorers updated after Tuesday's deluge of new players now includes the DOB's & POBs. If the games stay as they are the game against Corby will be Liam's 250th match in charge in all games. 3 Feb I'm glad we don't have so many team changes with new players every game. It has taken ages to get everything updated and even now I need to do the checks and I'm missing some DOB's and POB's. 2 Feb Away at Skelmersdale United Liverpool Senior Cup Quarter Final. SKEM 7 SOUTHPORT 0. Full update of site Wednesday evening. It was a very youthful Southport team. It was a game that could easily have ended 14-5, such were the glut of chances. Men v Boys. The lads never gave up and it was to their credit that they kept going and created chances so late on. I thought Skem were excellent with the player who always impresses me every time I see him, Kevin Towey outstanding. Shaun Foster scored the goal of the night. Workington match rearranged for Tuesday 16th March. |
